About
Julie Smith is a writer and educator passionate about making Transactional Analysis simple and practical for everyday life. She creates books and resources that help people understand themselves and others, improve relationships, and build confidence.
My Story
My journey with Transactional Analysis began more than 25 years ago, when I discovered how this clear and practical framework could completely change the way we understand ourselves and others.
As an educator, I saw how often TA’s powerful ideas were often hidden behind complex theory and academic language. Talking TA was born from a simple goal: to make Transactional Analysis clear, simple, and fun to learn. Through visual guides, easy-to-follow workbooks, and real-life examples, I aim to make these life-changing tools accessible to anyone seeking personal growth, stronger relationships, or professional development.
Because understanding yourself shouldn’t be complicated.

My Story
What is Transactional Analysis?
Transactional Analysis (TA) is a theory of personality and a systematic psychotherapy for personal growth and change. Developed by Eric Berne in the 1950s, TA provides a framework for understanding how we communicate, relate to others, and organize our lives.
At its core, TA helps you identify three ego states that influence your behavior: Parent, Adult, and Child. By understanding these states and how they interact, you gain powerful insights into your patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving.
What makes TA particularly powerful is its practical application. It's not just theory – it's a set of tools you can use immediately to improve your communication, resolve conflicts, and create more authentic relationships.
EGO STATES

Parent
The part of us that copies attitudes, rules, and behaviours we learned from authority figures.

Adult
The rational part that thinks, evaluates, and responds to what’s happening right now.

Child
The feeling part that reacts with emotions, creativity, and patterns learned from childhood.
